Rescheduled!! The Wine Thief Does IRV Wine Tasting in St. PaulJul 12 2007 - 5:00pm Jul 12 2007 - 7:00pm description: Keep your eyes peeled for new AUGUST dates for this event!! Please Don't Make Me Choose Between Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon....AGAIN! I always enjoy sampling featured wines at The Wine Thief at 1787 St. Clair near Fairview. Each wine has something different and interesting to offer. I admit, I have a pretty good idea what I like before I go into the store. But I keep an open mind, and sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by a subtle Malbec or a new Petit Chenin. I'm so glad that I'm not forced to chose from only two bottles that I know little about, and I like that I have the option to pick more than one!
On July 12th from 5-7:00 and again on July 14 from 3-5:00, the good people from the Better Ballot Campaign in St. Paul will be at the store conducting a "wine election" using Instant Runoff Voting (IRV.) They will explain why this popular election reform idea moving full steam ahead in St. Paul is a good way to get people more interested and engaged in local elections. With IRV, primary elections are eliminated, and ALL the candidates move forward to the general election giving voters plenty of choices. Voters can learn about a wide range of candidate positions, and then rank them by preference (1, 2, 3 and so on) rather than just pick one. On Thursday and Saturday, we will taste and learn about the featured wines and then vote, IRV style, on the wines we like best. The Wine Thief staff promise not to sling mud at boxed wine or conduct opposition research on imported beer. Better Ballot volunteers will answer your questions about this non-partisan, voter-friendly movement and provide you an opportunity to sign a petition to help put the measure on our ballot this fall. So join us for this interactive way to learn about the next big thing in St. Paul elections.
